With no where else to turn to for advice and with no impediment to extradition but himself, Attorney General Anand Ramlogan has stepped into the breach for Ishwar Galbaransingh and Steve Feguson and is the only thing keeping them from assuredly facing the music for their alleged transgressions and involvement in bid rigging, wire fraud, money laundering and other crimes coming out of the expensive fiasco that was the redevelopment of the airport terminal at Piarco. It boggles the mind that such a bright and ambitious young man at the cusp of a legendary legal career would risk his date with destiny to assist in this matter, and he must be aware that his successes and achievements up till now, especially because of his young age, portends great things for his future as a legal luminary and in other judicial endeavors.
Can he be so foolish as to risk the promised incandescence of a life spent etching his name indelibly among the best and the brightest in his chosen profession by consorting with men of this ilk and their selfish agendas?
There is no escaping the facts of this matter, which have been played out extensively in our Courts and in the United States, and where alleged co-conspirators have already served their time in prison and have all given evidence as to the nature of the criminal enterprise and the degree of involvement of these two businessmen and others still waiting their day in Court.Surely the Attorney General must be aware that the citizens of Trinidad & Tobago will not forgive him should he falter in his responsibility to seek the people's interest, to ensure that justice is done at all times, and to repatriate to the Treasury every dollar possible so as to set the new standard for decency, integrity and competence in that Office.
Mr. Ramlogan is at a crossroad, with one side leading to greatness, the other pointing to shame and missed opportunity. He is not at a place to be envied, and one can only hope that he is as guided in this matter as he has been over the course of a life well played up till now.
These two men, together with their accomplices & conspirators and the crimes they are accused of committing were all at the heart of the demise of the then Basdeo Pandeo led UNC Government.
Wouldn't it be Shakespearean irony if their legal maneuvering and judicial gymnastics pulled down Kamla Persad Bissessar's UNC Government as well?
