Warning Signs.... (or farewell to the COP)

This Local Government Election (LGE) is an important Local Government Election because it is the last Local Government Election we will ever have.

The only purpose of this LGE is to capitalize on the momentum of the General Election to remove the existing PNM councillors and replace them with UNC councillors in all areas (note I did not say People's Partnership); this despite the fact that the present Government has said that the Local Government system in place is broken and needs overhauling to be a viable part of Governance.

Now is time for the End Game. The United National Congress needs the Congress of the People for one more play, and after that, they could 'haul' as we 'Trini's like to say...

Why?

Because it's all about consolidating power.

Already tired of all this 'horse trading' and negotiating to get what they want from what is seen by rank and file UNC members as the 'junior' Party in the coalition, the UNC as a Party needs to take full control of all levels of Government to pursue their agenda unimpeded, and, once they (the COP) have served their purpose, the UNC is going to have to destroy the Congress of the People.

How?

After this election, the UNC will embark (or continue) the process of wooing the COP members that matter, and power is difficult wine to refuse.
I suspect Anil Roberts will be the first to go, as his rabid defense of Warner in the face of evidence to the contrary leads me to believe he has already cut a deal.

To long time observers of politics, this is reminiscent of the time when PNM MP's Rupert Griffith and Vincent Lasse crossed the floor and joined the UNC, prompting then Prime Minister Basdeo Panday to tell then Opposition Leader Patrick Manning that he could buy PNM MP's wholesale for a 'twenty dollars'.

The transition here would be a lot easier, no floor crossing involved, just a change of shirt and a signature on the dotted line.
What do they say of Politicians? Everybody has a price, it's all a matter of negotiation.

Some glaring tips and slips to note:

When Kamla appointed Jack to act as Prime Minister over the experienced Winston Dookeran, and in defense of that appointment told the media: "Mr. Warner is the 'Chairman' of Our Party..."
I have asked repeatedly which 'Party' is that?

Is Warner Chairman of the People's Partnership?
The Congress of the People? or the UNC?

I ask again to COP members, the celebration 'dance' at Rienzi Complex, why did the huge banner on the stage have a smaller headline 'Brought to you by the UNC'. Who was that message for?

The Congress of the People have the opportunity here to re-establish itself as a political force while ALL parties are rebuilding. The UNC is still very much a hobbled party and has not shaken the stigma of being the most corrupt Government we have ever had.

What is it they say about History? Those who do not learn from it are condemned to relive it?
Now is not the time for fiddling. The Congress of the People needs to act and act decisively if it intends to be a part of the political landscape in the future.

Knowledge is power, consider yourself informed.
