The Enemy Within...

The appointment of Jack Warner to act as Prime Minister is an insult to the Leader of the Congress of the People and a humiliation to all its members.

The UNC seems bent on weakening the COP, and this display of strength will cause the COP to hemorrhage members to the UNC and undermine the Party as a viable political entity in the present circumstances and for the future.
The justification made for the coalition with the UNC and the promises made to wary COP members that the Party would 'keep the UNC in line' is an empty promise that cannot be enforced and exposes the population to much abuse.

This appointment flies in the face of the People's Partnership agreement and makes dupes of anyone who believed the charade that a coalition of any sort was possible with the UNC.

Why isn't the hierarchy of the Party contesting this insult with all the vigor it requires?

If certain members of the COP have become comfortable with the perks and access of Government, they should be removed and replaced with people better able to resist complacency or temptation and act in the best interest of the country as a whole and of the membership over personal glory.

Messrs. Winston Dookeran, Robert Mayers, Prakash Ramadar, and Ms. Wendy Lee Yeun, we call on you to enunciate your position on this political defeat.

Having raised this point in a discussion, i was told by a COP member - (quote) "many of us feel that way. And to that end, negotiations re-opened for LGE seat allocations, which yielded a better result, and separate internal talks will be taking place to ensure that the People's Partnership Doctrine is adhered to in moving forward. Separate and apart from that, I think the PM got the message loud and clear on how the population feels. Your Party, a member of the PP, will be working towards fair treatment, while at the same time ensuring a stable Government, which remember, we are a part of." (unquote)

This response from the hierarchy raises more questions than it answers:
If as was said, the PM 'NOW' understands the will of the people, why did she not express that understanding by canceling the appointment of Warner and appointing Mr. Dookeran as a demonstration of respect for ALL the people and not just the UNC members?

To engage in horse trading is par for the course in politics i understand, but extra seats at Local Government level is not worth disrespecting the Leader of the COP and all its members by extension.

The COP has lost a lot of ground in this bargain and is a lot weaker for it.

I do not agree that the COP is in any partnership and I say again the Party is being conveniently used.

On the issue of Government stability, (which I question) , my answer is Patrick Manning's Government was stable but corrupt, so the analogy does not apply because we removed him by appealing to ethical and moral reasons.

The hierarchy of the party must be made to understand the game they are playing (or being played with), that the Party (the COP) will lose members over this, because no one wants to be a member of a weak party.
This 'loss of face' cannot be 'politicked' away and must be put right if the leadership of the COP wants to have any high ground from which to speak in the future.

If the Leadership of the Congress of the People accepts this insult to the Leader of the Party and insult and humiliation of the membership, they may need to be replaced by people more willing to have the terms of the People's Partnership agreement adhered to and to keep the UNC in line.

Some serious 'Horse Trading' is taking place at the membership's expense and should not be allowed to continue.

The Leadership is asked to act on the members behalf and put this fiasco right, or call Leadership elections in the Congress of the People now.

  1. What did the COP expect when they joined with the UNC?
Those were the same people Mr. Dookeran, Anil Roberts and many other COP people crticised in the 2007 election, then they joined with them in 2010?

  2. Come on Phillip, did the COP really believe that they could 'keep Jack Warner in line'
