It was the age of wisdom for those with a plan, it was the age of foolishness for those who bought it.
It was the epoch of belief that change was indeed possible, it was the epoch of incredulity that such change would last.
It was the season of Light that would unite us all and lead us to the Promise Land, it was the season of Darkness that would make a lie of Light.
It was the spring of hope that we as a nation would rise, it was the winter of despair as small men with greedy aspirations caused our demise.
We had everything before us and we could rebuild and remake on lofty words and high ideals, we had nothing before us as those words proved hollow and lowness prevailed.

Rumors abound of break ups and break downs between the COP and the UNC, and of suggestions that the UNC, in trying to force its will on the other members of the Partnership, is attempting to sideline the Congress of the People in the allocation of seats for the Local Government Elections due shortly.
This is neither news nor unexpected to those of us who have chosen to learn from history (rather than to relive it ad nauseam), and should not be allowed to prevail.
From the sidelining of key Congress members, to the appointment of misfits in UNC shirts to posts they cannot handle and do not deserve, the leadership of the UNC have been upping the stakes of the game in a challenge by challenge match of wits while the rest of the people were 'giving them a chance'.
I am no fan of the UNC, and I never expect anything good or decent to come out of that Party regardless of what their paid agents would have you believe.
That said, my position as always is 'Country First', and I am interested to see how this augers for the nation and the people of Trinidad & Tobago.
I believe Mr. Jack Warner, having 'risen' to power (irony abounds) on other people's strength, character and integrity, is moving to consolidate his tenuous grasp on that power by some moves too obvious to be Machiavellian. The UNC could not have won the elections without the COP regardless of how much money Jack flung at it, and he needs to be reminded of that fact.
Having himself appointed as 'acting' Prime Minister was a game of high stakes 'chicken' to see if the people would notice, and if they did, would they challenge him.
On behalf of the people of Trinidad & Tobago, consider yourself challenged - Mr. Warner is unfit to 'act' as Prime Minister for many reasons, but the most obvious is, being in breech of the Parliamentary Code of Ethics, he risks bringing that hallowed place into disrepute.
I call on all the members of the Congress of the People to join in challenging this mockery of an appointment, and to have Mr. Winston Dookeran, Leader of the Congress of the People and full partner in Government function in that capacity.I call on all the people of Trinidad & Tobago, regardless of Party, tribe, color, class, race or religion to resist this attempt to hijack the Government by scheme and trickery, and to stand ready to make their voices heard.
I would like to call on WInston Dookeran, in his role as Leader of the Congress of the People and the people's representative in Government to address the nation to calm the fears that much is amiss within the People's Partnership and the Government.
Finally, I would like to call on the Prime Minister to either live up to the terms as outlined in the People's Partnership agreement, or to advise His Excellency to dissolve Parliament and call a General Election.
The people of this country will not accept having been fooled to support something that was known to be false at conception and 'dishonest within the womb'.
This well written commentary is dated July 3rd. It still is and will continue to be true as the next 4 and a half years go by
