If you happened to be a public persona who wanted to leave either Party you were branded a neemakeram or knife and fork indian by Panday and the UNC or a sell out or a lick bottom African from the PNM.
Thinking the leadership changes that took place in both Parties last year would have led to an age of enlightenment in our politics has sadly not materialized, and the race baiting and head counting seems underway in ernest.
My question is a simple one, if both Parties have the exact ideology yet view the world in an 'us' verus 'them' scenario, what is the us and them made of?
Further to that, if when you leave the Party(s) you are berated in racist derogatory terms, what could be the rationale?
We are playing a stupid game in our politics and that is fine, but it is threatening the relative peaceful and harmonious relationship between the major races in our country and that isn't.
We conducted a poll recently to identify which of the Parties currently enjoy the most support and more than half of the people polled chose 'none of the above.'
That may well be the most exciting news of all, and I think we may coming to a point when the racist politicians, like the dinosaurs that preceded them, are about to go extinct.
If that happens please allow me to be the first to say bravo.
Extinction is not in the cards I am sorry to admit. It has been one of my hopes since I was a boy and I see it spread from Generation to generation. It is so sad that people cannot leave their petty feelings aside while they try to put a shine on the Country's tarnished reputation. But my friend, more Trinis like us, who are "Reserved" in the hateful speech we put out there are at least a good start... I have no doubt that both sides want the betterment of the country...ultimately...but I do not foresee them putting away their selfish personal financial hopes/greed, to make the Country progress. Not yet anyway...
