Far more than tears but significantly less than a Hanging Bill would be a policy dedicated to getting the system to function as is, if we seriously wanted to make a significant difference in the crime statistics.
Experts in the field have alluded to the fact that additional legislation may not be all theat necessary to bring the current crime scourge under control, and failing political will, competence and experience would be mandatory against an entrenched underworld bent on keeping claimed ground and expanding territory.
It seems that the Government is in need of good advisors from the ground up as they fail to see how their every move trumpets their unsuitability for the job.
Nothing said or done so far resonates in reality and makes a lie of our very own history.
As an Opposition Senator was heard to have said in the Parliament, if you really want to hang people there is nothing stopping you from doing so. This is a country that has witnessed a mass hanging of nine people over two days with no substantial impediment to so doing enacted or made law since.
In other words, if the government really believed hanging would save the day they would hang.
Personally I do not embrace the statistics peddled by both sides as to a ninety one per cent support for hanging as a deterrent to crime.
That has not been proven true at least of the people I speak with, and unlike other commentators and officials, my circle is extremely wide and diverse (extremely).
It seems most people have the same idea, that were the government to effectively protect and serve through a revamped and functioning police service purged of the criminal element we would already see a drastic drop in crime.
Interdiction, investigation, prosecution appear to be out of fashion as we approach crime from an emotional publicity first response.
This has to change.
The pursuit of political mileage out of every ill is only promoting illness and is doing nothing to reassure the population the the stewards at the helm have a clue as to where we are and where we're going.
Through the different groups that I am a member of I can say with some assurance that because of the experience, competence, qualifications and suggested policies of many of our members, were we to be given the Ministries of National Security, Education and Social Development for one term the country would be transformed into a sensible, workable, magical version of itself where people from Canada and the United States would be willing to line up in the snow from four in the morning in the hopes of getting a visa to visit real paradise.
Should Kamla decide that she needs help all she ever has to do is call; as it is the country is running on a default auto-pilot, limping along and moving in circles.
We have amongst our numbers the personalities and personnel required to effect the changes so urgently needed to stop the rot. We would bring in a symbolic broom and help her sweep the place clean of the bungling incompetents that are making lies of all her campaign promises and making a fool out of her.
The neophyte nincompoop sycophants who are currently warming public positions in exchange for fat salaries and self glorification who bring nothing of substance to the table need to be jacked up and thrown into the street, insulted for wasting people's time and contributing to the demise and the destruction of the country.
With a serious team at the helm the rest of her Party could meet for drinks every afternoon promptly at four, safe in the knowledge that the ship of State is being guided by vision and policy by people of brain, heart and backbone.
This is a very serious offer and one that ought to be taken seriously before others snatch it up.
Either way, business as usual continues to cost us all dearly and it is only a matter of time before the good ship T&T runs aground completely.
Do the right thing Kamla, all of your advisors know how to reach us, pick up the phone and call.
