The mob has gathered at the gate in the dead of night, torches abalze, pitch forks and ropes a-ready, we are here for a lynching and damned if we are going to accept anything less than that.
We have heaped scorn and poured all of the ills of society on one man's head, and whether because of his illegal left turn, the fact that he was brazen enough to ignore the officers in carrying out their duty or even because he had Commissioner Gibbs on speed dial, we decide that it is at this point that we are fixing T&T.
Press fast forward to a couple of weeks later, and what some would call an unfortunate utterance, others are using as a call to arms to fire, to resign, to draw and to quarter, and from where I sit all I that am seeing are agendas.
Many groups have called on me for an opinion and I have even been told that what I do not condemn I condone.
Really now?
Really now?
My position is simple.
Until we have a trranscript of what was said and the dociument(s) he was quoting from we are all wrong, impestuous and out of place to have opinions, and while I understand the Prime Minister rushing to pour cold water on a tense situation, allowing the Opposition forces to dictate every issue in terms of race is similar to negotiating with terrorists.
It only encourages more of the same.
While most of the fashionably incorrect are willing to call for Mr. Mohammed's head, ninety nine per cent of them do not even know why they are making such a call, but having been handed their opinion fully formed, continue to parrot other people's words pursuing other people's agendas.
Not this half breed.
I will wait until I have all of the information from which to make an informed decision and then and only then will I, based on the facts as they exist in reality, pontificate from on high as if my opinion really mattered.
Politics in Trinidad & Tobago has morphed into a sort of grudge match to the death, with neither truth nor decency being allowed on the playing field.
We as a people need to develop a social awareness beyond the boundaries of our tribe if we ever hope to be one nation or one people ever.

Well Phillip, for your edifictaion his comments are there for all to see and to hear as it was on the news channels. I also seem to recall you stating that his statements were stupid (not your exact words, but it conveys your message succintly).
ReplyDeleteHe should not even have been discussions such issues as he did not have a oversight of such matters.
Furthermore Phillip, please explain what he emans by this:
"Happily when you look at the figures, you see at the Superintendent level, you have 21 of African origin and ten of East Indian origin and since within recent times..., we have been emphasising the question of meritocracy as opposed to seniority, and Monday coming, Superintendents should be writing their exams. The better ones may move to Senior Superintendents and you may have a better mixture," Mohammed said.
1. Explain why he feels that there should be an equal number of Indian Superintendents as Black ones, especially since there are more black policemen, it stands to reason that will also be reflected in the number of senior officers! Is Nizam looking to create a state of racial imbalance by having a disportionate number of indians in senior positions?? I mean man, come on, if blacks outnumber indians 3-1 in the police service and when it comes to senior positions the ratio is only 2-1 then the indians are doing damn well for themselves...won't you say?
2. The part about superintendents writing their exams so he can expect to see a better mix, means that Indians brighter, smarter and better equipped to pass the exams than blacks or is it that he intends to "create" his kind of balance?
3. "Fifty percent of this country are people of East Indian origin and you are asking them to support the Police Service. They have to provide the Police Service with information.
"They have to feel protected by the Police Service and when they see the hierarchy of the Police Service is as imbalanced as is reflected in these figures, and the chairman of the commission intends to tackle these things, you understand why the guns are being aimed at me. But I have a job to do and this is what I intend to do. I intend to address this with the help of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. We need the protection."
Explain to me and your other readers/followers exactly why do indians feel they need extra protection and that will come from indian police, so each race will protect their own race? So the black police are racists and discharge their duties with prejudice against indians specifically?
nah man!
Come better than that!
Exactly what sort of information are you looking to get before you make your informed decision?
ReplyDeletehello half breed you're on the button with your opinion and decision to await the pertinent info on the ongoing issue,i for one has had the privileged to gather that data a very long time ago... i have been there, eventually you will see that the information presented is totally correct...but for the rest, if not public relations exercise, kill the messenger forget the message, it tramples the toes....regards
ReplyDeleteI want to see the stats for all public service organisations and then for private institutions, then I will make an informed decision! Not jumping on a bandwagon because I hate one and like the other, only fools do that!!!!
