Spy vs Spy vs Spy...

This is what i hope will be my final contribution on the SIA/SSA matter.

Certain information has been made available to me that sheds another light on the thing, a view that adds a human face to the saga of operatives and spies working on the State's behalf and of a situation that has since been compromised by cheap politicking on both sides where lives have been placed in mortal danger.

Doctor Rowley in his capacity as Leader of the Opposition should have the same information that I have, and if he doesn't then he ought to; information of hirings under the then PNM, of motives other than those espoused, and of the bigger picture that may encourage him to take a different approach to this matter.

To be fair to the Leader of the Opposition, it was Kamla herself and her Government that 'put the SIA in play' so to speak, and the Opposition had little say initially where this matter was originally concerned; but having brought the issue back to the center they could have taken the high road rather than press on to score points regardless of what the 'other side' may have done in the same position, demonstrating much needed Statesmanship in the House.

It is my belief that this demonstrated political immaturity on both sides of the aisle is contributing in no small part to the breakdown in the wider society, as those in the underworld are not bound to any rules of engagement and have their own ways and means of protecting themselves from attack; while we may have provided Friday evening entertainment for the electorate at large, we may have also inadvertently strengthened the hands of those very criminals who are ruining our lives by blowing covers and by destroying years of irreplaceable undercover work.

Don't get me wrong, I am still of the view that this was a stupid appointment and one that was handled very badly from the start,  but when everything is fair game, what is the purpose of sport?

How much further can you go along this road before you reach that blurred line where nothing that can be justified or rationalized can be deemed wrong in itself?

The House of Representatives needs to be returned to its place of respect in our society and the constant campaigning on both sides has to come to an end at some point if the place is to be ever considered functional; at some point they need to stop fighting for spoils and begin the process of governing the country in the interests of all the people, ostensibly why they were elected in the first place.

Maybe it might be in everyone's interest where this particular and sensitive matter is concerned to drop it and move on; If history has taught us anything, it is that sometimes it makes most sense to lose a battle in order to win a war.

Something to think about...

  3. It is really interseting to see that the government exposed the SIA to get back at former Prime Minister Manning, now that it backfired, you are saying that both the PNM and The People's Partnership displayed political immaturity. Life real funny sometimes!!!
