In the recent past Mr. Winston Dookeran has come in for a lot of 'stick,' and while I think he does not deserve most of what he is getting, the rest he is bringing on himself.
He has allowed himself to be painted into a corner between what is being promised and what can in reality be delivered, with a lot of the political machinations behind his undoing being reminiscent of a good suspense horror show. The calls are coming from inside the house.
Having played the part of political leader to the hilt, he now finds himself at the front of a tidal wave of public expectation slamming him against the jagged political reality of having all the trappings of power with none of its substance, a situation all fours players refer to as 'laugh and cry.'
The harsh reality of the situation and its consequences are going to wash over him eventually if he does not take steps to get out now, and I am again calling on the Political Leader of the Congress of the People to return us to the path of the journey to the Promised Land; if he/we fail to take heed over some members need for self glorification, the country may well pay a very high price.
The indicators are not good at all; a stalled economy, a crime situation that is deteriorating daily and the national mood abysmally low, it is fair to say that our country is circling the drain.
Having lent its integrity to the UNC to unseat Manning and his delusions of personal grandeur, the COP needs to reclaim said integrity as it is being abused by others to accommodate the lusting of a greedy few.
We cannot fail, nor can we shirk from our appointment with destiny.
The moral majority among our people far outnumber the lawless in society, and given a true vehicle of change to rally behind would light this country aglow with redemption fire for the whole world to see.
The people are crying out for real leadership, true change, and having been fooled in 2010 are demanding their promised freedom.
We must not fail.
Winston, Prakash, Wendy, Vernon, Joseph and all of the others that make up the Leadership of the Congress of the People, you/we need to face the truth and begin with new vigor the process of building the Party.
We need to raise up activists and empower them to do the work of organizing their constituencies.
We need to build as many offices and outposts as we can and start to groom future candidates for the next general election.
We need to hold cottage meetings and town meetings, and talk with the people and listen to them again; we need to show the people of this country that the Party of integrity is indeed strong and that the promise of a better tomorrow, while temporarily delayed, is still on its way.
There is nothing but death and destruction for the Party if it remains in this UNC Partnership, and it is time that the Congress of the People demonstrated to one and all that it IS a national Party, that it DOES have plans for governance and is not just an appendage of the United National Congress.
There will be those who disagree with this and that is fine, our business is not with them.
Our business is with the people of Trinidad & Tobago in the creation of a new vision for a better tomorrow; in this regard and to this calling we must be unflinching, committed, resolute and strong.
