As a social activist and political observer it is very rare that one stumbles upon an action by a member of any Government that one can seize upon as an example of good governance and a step in a positive, Country First direction, but today's signing of the extradition request by the Honorable Attorney General Anand Ramlogan was just such an occurrence.
If there is truth in the idea that what we focus on grows, then I would like to encourage everyone to get on board and congratulate young Mr. Ramlogan for having the strength of character to resist what must have been impassioned and unrelenting entreaties to do otherwise. It is no secret that the Galbaransingh clan have been seen in continuous and close proximity to the UNC leadership, and the rumors of a multi million dollar bribe/donation from the Galbaransingh owned Royal Castle Company to Ernie Ross of Ross Advertising on behalf of the United National Congress further fueled speculation that a deal to buy the freedom of the men in question was in the works. This news is a refreshing breath of political fresh air, and will go a long way in relaxing the posture of a people long since jaded by the selfish, high handed actions of many who have occupied seats of power in this land. Mr. Ramlogan is now an example to all within both the Government and the Opposition that there is more to being in Government than self glorification, and many who have a permanent grip on a temporary position would do well to follow his example.
As was said by others when we received the news, men of the ilk of Calder Hart, Yasin Abu Bakr and others now have real cause to fear the weight of the law, as it appears integrity has found its way back into Government and there is, in fact a new sheriff in town.
I had said in many an article that were he to demonstrate the courage of his often espoused convictions and done the right and moral thing in these instants that he could count on my unequivocal support. As he has seen it fit to uphold his end of the bargain I can have no hesitation in upholding mine.
On behalf of the People of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago I would like to publicly offer my support to Mr. Anand Ramlogan in his capacity of Attorney General, and I look forward to further examples of strong leadership in service of the people.
Well done sir, well done.
