In the aftermath of yesterday's failed 'putsch' against him, sme important questions need to be asked to determine the true metle of the man, Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley, Leader of the Opposition, Political Leader of the People's National Movement.
Was he in fact 'playing dead to ketch corbeaux alive' to flush out would be attackers, or was he caught off guard by a parallel leadership bent on destroying him and his Administration?Whatever the case, Dr. Rowley now has the moral authority and the ammunition (and some serious public support both within and without the PNM) to remove those who consider themselves the rightful owners of the Party who serve no current purpose and, despite all claim, deflections and outright hokum to the contrary, are responsible for the hatred people outside the Party feel for the PNM.
I have said over and over and over again that Dr. Rowley has to 'destroy' Patrick Manning and remove him from the Party if he is ever to have his moment in time. Manning, Imbert, Tixiera and the other 'old guard' need to be removed, expulled, extinguished and sent on their way.
We the people of Trinidad & Tobago wants NOTHING to do with them and their circle.
No amount of brainwashing will make us see Manning as anything save a megalomaniac bent on dictatorship, and we still bless God that we found a means to remove him. For whatever good they might have done, no positive action justifies negative behavior while in Public Office and about the people's business. Karen Tixiera needs to be charged with insider trading or whatever our close approximate law is, because we all know her tapdance was a lie, please, we've seen this particular routine before from some more seasoned performes, Trini's can smell gobar from a mile away.
Look, the substantive issue here is the people voted against Patrick Manning and Company, and if Dr. Rowley wants to enjoy anything like the people's respect he needs to flush these dinasaurs down the political toilet and move on. (Give them their FIFA watch nah man!)
The Party needs it, obviously he needs it, and the people, who in the local Government election (the first opportunity to weigh in after May 24th) overwhelmingly underscored their distaste for the PNM (principally because these men are still there) by voting against them again needs it.
I listen to my fellow activists on the PNM side of the discussion, and it seems the weapon of choice is destabilize the Coalition and push it over; In other words, they are not intent on doing any house cleaning whatsoever and are hoping for governance by default.
It is PRECISELY for this reason that many of us have kept up the watch, and last nights failed Coup d'Etat was a justification for our committment and a confirmation of our fears.
The long and the short of it is this: Dr. Rowley you are sticking.
Patrick Manning has to go.

Now Phillip, I love to read your posts. My concern is that activists like you (on both sides of the aisle) use terms like "We the people of Trinidad & Tobago", as if you and your kind, speak for everyone.
ReplyDeleteLike it or not, the PNM garnered a significant number of votes from "the people", either because of, or in spite of Mr. Manning.
What confuses me though, is that people who are clearly opposed to the PNM, some who may have left the PNM, won't leave the PNM alone. If the party has issues to deal with, let them so do. If you believe that they are taking too long, you are free to vote against them again.
If you believe that their internal issues are taking away from there being a credible alternative to the current Government, the same was said about the UNC, and they are now in power. But, people like you are doing a wonderful of keeping the people informed, and the Government on their toes.
Anyways, keep it up.
Mr. Alexander
ReplyDeleteThere could be some logic in the theory that having Patrick Manning and his faction in the cabinet with Dr. Keith Rowley could fuel the pressure between the two of them to the point of bringing them both down and ultimately destroying the entire PNM presence in the parliament.
However that may be a long shot. The PNM is known for its expertise in closing party gaps. The better option for the PP would be to aggressively pursue criminal charges against the miscreants in the PNM for the numerous atrocities committed against the people of T & T during their 8 years in government.
Even if Dr. Rowley doesn’t make the effort to get rid of Manning, eventually the PP will be able to charge and prosecute enough of the PNM big boys to significantly neuter the party and bring them to the point where they can never again be a threat to T & T.
@ JPitt - First things first sir. Ish and Steve are the first item on the 'justice' agenda. If this is never done, then the People's Partnership will not have the moral authority to search out criminals in Trinidad and Tobago.
