Many people are voicing an opinion without fully understanding what's at stake in these internal elections. How long before the Congress of the People goes the way of the NAR and other third Parties if it does not entrench itself and grow?
For the Party to remain a viable option for supporters and financiers alike and for it to attract votes at elections time the perception must be there that this is a national organization and that a vote for it really matters, because unless the COP can challenge for governance on its own, all of this would have been a struggle for nought.
Surely it is possible to get people to realize that almost everything that exists now had to challenge and replace something else?
The time of the PNM/UNC hegemony on politics must be made to be the past and out of this struggle a new political dynamic must emerge; one where people feel represented on issues and policies rather than on religion and race; one where the accepted politics of corruption and financier payback could be pulled up from the roots and discarded to make way for a new day where all the people of our country are given the same respect, the same support and equal protection.
For its part the Congress of the People needs to stop playing bit roles and second fiddle and truly enunciate a vision for the nation and its people, one in keeping with the individual as well as collective aspirations and one that offers guidance into new territory and leads for the first time into issues that affect our people up close and personally.
Issues such as:
Home ownership for all through personal equity development support
Sustainable employment through private-sector labor-intensive expansion policies

These and other issues of equal or greater importance need to replace the politics of CEPEP, house and contracts if we are to ever crawl out of the hole that we find ourselves in. If anything our people are understanding and dependable and can be encouraged to share the weight and contribute to this vision of a better tomorrow for all of us. Properly done, our citizens will no longer be left to languish in poverty while Party friends loot our treasury. Effectively accomplished and our people will cease voting race and would start voting issues. FInally done we would have used the power of the State to encourage a sense of personal responsibility that would replace the culture of entitlement that has been used by previous regimes to trap our people into a negative cycle.
This can only be accomplished by a Party of the center built on all inclusive principles capable of embracing all as one family. We need to immediately begin the work of opening offices in each constituency and making it so that membership in the Congress of the People becomes the political vehicle to a brighter day.

There may never be another time and there certainly isn't a better time than now to begin the work of this change. Regardless of your present views know this, the choices we make now will determine the nation we live in in the future, and because others have made themselves available to serve we have the opportunity to change things for the better.
