Driving up the highway today I saw a sign that said 'Diversion Ahead,' which got me thinking of Anand Ramlogan and his rumored soon to be headline making role answering weighted questions instead of asking them.
As the Government that he is a part of took only one page from the shock and awe playbook, distraction, I fully expect some big shoes to drop this week in hopes of a misdirection to keep the people from asking if not why then when.
His saving grace in this alleged matter may very well be his accuser in chief, who now has little or no credibility left after ruining the reputations of two elected Representatives of the People and contributing to what amounts to a perversion of Justice.
While this may save him from the speculation of the public, it may not be enough to protect him from the DPP, who may very well disregard all the posturing and diversionary tactics being employed both within and without the Parliament and focus instead on the available evidence and the law.
If that be the case then we could be in for a bumpy ride.
The truth of the matter is that the alleged conspiracy damages not only his credibility but sullies the Office he holds by association, and if the Authorities find that there may be enough reason to ask questions of him, then convention, tradition and decency will warrant that he vacates that good Office before he brings it into further disrepute.
Noting this Administration's penchant for ignoring things of this nature however, such a position cannot be considered to be guaranteed or carved in stone; this is the same AG who allowed one of his fellow Cabinet Ministers to flout the Parliamentary Code of Ethics instead of defending it as a lynchpin to our fledgling democracy.
That matter may now be history, but it goes to the heart of this one, and it begs of this Administration that it understands that trifling with these rules in any way, for whatever advantage, changes the very game that we rely on for governance and may contribute to chaos at some point down the road.
The people need to comfortably rely on sensible judgement and sober decorum in the conduct of their affairs at the highest level, or they may find themselves asking what's the point of it all.
If the current Prime Minister has half the survival instinct I give her credit for, she should already be receiving resumes and applications for the position, as our Constitution only requires two positions be filled in the Cabinet, that of Prime Minister and Attorney General.
Being the seasoned campaigner that she is, I shall trust that the right decisions will be made to prevent further damage to her already hobbled and limping Administration in due course.
Was it JOB who said that when hope was gone, he labored on in faith?
We labor on...
