The same George Santayana who is known for his comment - "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" is the very same person responsible for saying - "Only the dead have seen the end of war."
We the people of Trinidad & Tobago have been collectively abused by successive governments led by men of devious intentions who have exploited the social fractures for their own advancement and personal gain. These men have either established new systems or corrupted existing ones to the point where they fail to function in the people's protection and then further that nefarious transaction by abusing their positions with impunity.
Our history's catalogue and who's who is a shameful rogue's gallery replete with examples of extreme greed unrestrained set loose on the country's treasure that has had the effect of frustrating real development and consigning many to a life of extreme poverty forevermore. Herded into tribal camps and allowed only a vote as a response, the people have been fooled into believing that the systems in place to govern protects the wicked and rewards only the guilty.
We need to reject that. Where there are broken systems we need to replace them with the people's voice. Where there are governments that stand as obstacles to real progress we need to dismiss them.
There must be cold calculated precision in the move to bring all who raided the treasury by whatever means of skullduggery, corruption, misbehavior in Public Office or outright theft under the last Administration to justice so as to demonstrate that the country is in fact governable and to prevent it from occurring again under this one..
We cannot continue prosecuting petty crimes and poor people while those who were charged with the public's purse make away with the people's treasure and are allowed to do so unpunished. The consequences for those actions should be even more severe as their positions are predicated on an educated understanding of right and wrong and from this petard they should be hoisted.
I refuse to accept that the people are going to allow malfunctioning systems and flimsy excuses to frustrate justice and this must not be allowed to prevail. We are morally bound to pursue these abusers and bring them to justice and more, to repatriate the stolen loot simply because it belongs to the people and that must be respected.
Dr. Rowley's alleged public forgiveness of Patrick Manning must be rejected as the cheap politicking it is and the people need to ask him (Rowley) if Manning did nothing wrong then why is he (Rowley) in Manning's chair? And if he DID do wrong who is he (Rowley) to decide to forgive or not?
Instead of behaving like an Opposition leader bent on demonstrating what integrity in public office means to him and the Party he leads he is behaving like someone hurt in a personal matter. With all due respect Dr. Rowley, whether you like or dislike Patrick Manning is of no concern of ours and your forgiveness of him is a hollow gesture that seems bent on hijacking the people's outrage. There are too many people from that Administration who have serious questions to answer and we need to start asking those questions rather than playing smart with political foolishness.
To all those who insist on pushing this concept of what is done is done or the past is the past are robbing the people of their right to redress and we will have none of it. These so called leaders in the House on both sides are not the only options and if they continue to fail to seek the people's interest then the same people need to fire them and replace them with people who will.
Madame Justice is known for her scales that are used to demonstrate the difference between acts prohibited and those that are evil in themselves, but she also walks with a sword so that those who do not hear could be made to feel...
