In 1941 when United States Ambassador to Britain Joseph Kennedy (father of future President John F. Kennedy) returned home from his mission to assess the threat that was the still relatively unknown Adolf Hitler, he convinced then President Roosevelt that not only was Hitler a decent enough chap, he was exactly the type of man that the US could do business with. Within five years of that statement a full ten percent of the planet's population would be dead due to a war forced on the world by that same chap, and included some uniquely memorable events such as the Jewish Holocaust that saw six million Jews tortured and put to death. Were it not for such a shortsighted and selfish assessment, man's history would not have that terrible blot.
The idea of appeasement or tolerance for deliberate and selfish reasons has been on my mind of late with the rise of Jack Warner and the threat he poses to our democracy, and it puts me to thinking of Cambodia's Pol Pot, Uganda's Idi Amin, Haiti's Pappa Doc Duvalier, Sudan's Omar al-Bashir, Irag's Saddam Hussein, Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe, Josef Stalin, Chairman Mao and others, men who have written their names into history in the blood of countless thousands and tens if not hundreds of thousands, men who could have and should have been stopped in their tracks before the fact but for the deliberate appeasement actions of a selfish few.
Appeasement is never an option and isn't in this case. Jack Warner needs to be removed from our politics and prosecuted for his crimes. The systems MUST be made to work here or all would be lost. Those who see this man as a means to their own riches and glory need to be exposed and shunned. The selfishness of such as these few have led to the abuses as named to above, and their words must be counted as nought. There is no honor among thieves, there is is just thievery. This country's systems have been kept deliberately weak by those before who had the opportunity to preserve the wealth of this nation from plunder and that in and of itself is a whole other crime, but clearly they never envisioned a time when the King of Thieves would amass an army within grasp of political and economic power. Now is not the time for spite, bad mind or petty grouses, now is the time for the entire nation to pull together and prevent the future catastrophe that could be our reality as life under Jack Warner. History will not hold us blameless. We live in the age of communication, to appease or accommodate men of such capacity or reputation is evil in itself.
