Celebration Time...

Overshadowed by the news that former Prime Minister Patrick Manning had been rushed to hospital due to a stroke, the real story this week that is going pretty much under-examined is the gala party hosted by and for Kamla Persad Bissessar. Put on to celebrate the second anniversary of her ascension to UNC Party leadership, many outside the rabid masses are wondering what exactly is there to celebrate? The Partnership ruse is starting to unravel for all to see, and in the ongoing tug o' war between the major factions, Kamla & crew seems to be betting that the COP no longer has sufficient votes to make a difference so, unless Prakash can prove her wrong, the electorate would have lost its last best chance of keeping this runaway train on the tracks.

National Security appears to be at war with itself, but this was always inevitable when thuggery and bribery replaced poverty eradication and effective 21st century policing policies. Now that the SoE and Colour Me Orange have been played out and failed, where do you turn with three years to go? After you ram the Hanging Bill through and 'pop some necks' and after that fails to curb violent crime, what will you do then?

Since ousting Manning from Office in 2010 over allegations of massive corruption, the UNC led People's Partnership has presided over failure after dismal failure, and despite many high profile promise makers signing on for the ride that became this government, nothing of substance that was promised has been delivered. The misprint of the pension promise, the non existent crime plans, the curious circumstances surrounding Ish & Steve's on again/off again extradition, the assassination plot fiasco, the hiring and firing of Reshmi Ramnarine, the colossal failure of the State of Emergency and the multiples of explanations as to the rationale behind it, continuous and contentious labor unrest, the inability to prosecute or even charge any of the offenders named from the last Administration alleged to have been engaged in corruption, the complete reversal on referendum, fixed election date and recall legislations and the 'self awarding' of Senior Counsel status to the Prime Minister and her Attorney General are already too many missteps, mistakes, misspeaks and mishaps to befall a government not two years in Office.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar appears to not have a clue as to how to govern this country and seems content to rely on an inner circle who are themselves intent on distraction after distraction to keep the people from realizing that the ship of state is not sailing along as steadily as they would have us believe. Instead of a reason to celebrate her government seems bereft of ideas and is leading many to ask, how long can this go on before the whole charade collapses on itself?

Falling back on the tired 'bread and circuses' maxim everytime she's appears close to being cornered or exposed, she is painting herself with each of these grand speeches into the role of 'the great dispenser' like some macabre pinata hurling sweets at the feet of her frenzied masses. To go into detail as to why any of these makeshift plans delivered at any of these misdirection events are destined to fail is to take them seriously and I have neither the energy nor the time to chase my own tail where this government is concerned. Even as she and her handlers know that they wont be the ones to clean up the mess they are making, many who ought to know better are praising these tired, recycled, vote-buying initiatives simply because they are paid to do so. Her demonstrated vision for the country and its people seems to be a sad welfare state where everyone is dependent on the government for everything regardless of the cost to productivity and creativity or worse, the increasing operational debt and growing deficit.

Her Party's opting for mind control through dependence in a world where knowledge is king shows a marked lack of real understanding of how the world works and, more importantly, underscores her unfitness to lead. As the country can only (possibly) benefit from about four years of deficit financing, this could see them entering an election year with empty pockets looking to make more promises while trying to deflect from the ones they failed to keep from the last time around. That is, if they last that long in Office.

  1. @ Phillip - not that I disagree with a lot of what you talk about, but almost 'everything' you rant about is all negative and again I tell you it can be overwhelming and too much sometimes.
There are a lot of positive things that you can write about also, instead of the consistent bashing of everything under the sun.
    Have a great weekend.
