Capital Solutions & Hanging Crimes...

Whether for distraction purposes or out of exasperation at their inability to enforce the law and protect the citizens, the government's response to the runaway murder rate is to once again float the idea of hanging as the 'ultimate' solution to violent crime, and to engage the opposition in the blame game for full effect and value. The sad reality is that this pantomime only continues because the people are starved for choice, so every now and then these tired discussions are pulled out, dusted off and begun again in ernest to no benefit to anybody.

While an effective short term tool for shock purposes, the research reveals that as a stand alone remedy to dissuade violent crime, hanging and other forms of State sponsored execution does very little if to reduce crime.
 Simply put, the drivers of violent crime in this country cannot be 'hanged' away, and we need a holistic approach to social redevelopment at every level if we are ever going to make this country functional again.


Crime, especially violent crime is the number one most important issue to the electorate, but the current government and opposition are not mature enough to treat with it at the level and in the manner that it needs to be dealt with. This is a sad state of affairs, because until we get people in Office who can think differently and behave maturely, many of our citizens are going to die needless deaths as collateral damage and to make insipid political points.



We need to ignore the obvious and focus our energies at the cause level. Poverty, the breakdown of the family, the ridiculous price and cost of owning a home, the overwhelming failure of our education system to produce functional contributing citizens and the enforcement of proper laws all contribute to social disorder and crime, and dealing with these issues will have a far greater impact than hanging as our people seem to be at a place where the idea of consequence is lost on them.

ANY crime plan that does not first deal with poverty eradication and community redevelopment is destined to fail.
 Dealing with the effect and not the cause is a futile endeavor and takes the discussion to its lowest level. The issue is home and family first. Deal with this more than anything else and we will solve this and many other problems simultaneously. We need to identify what is at the heart of the breakdown of the family and by extension the community and the loss of these two pivotal social institutions to guide young minds. We have allowed our very limited real estate market to be overrun and hoarded by profiteers bent on money for money sake unaware of the consequence of treating this vital commodity as a means to riches and nothing more. The right to own a home is a right enshrined as a human right for a reason as nothing gives the citizen the feeling of being a full member of society and not just as labor and consumer. See this for what it is and the role it plays in the cause of crime and we would be well on our way to solving the problem.

Education is a function of both the school and the family, and one does not have to look far to verify this information; A cursory look at the top performing students in any school in any area reveals that in the majority of cases the common factor is a strong family regardless of the material condition. Parents should be mandated to be involved in their children's education, with monthly meetings and involvement in the PTA encouraged. This is also precisely why I keep saying that our Prison System should become a part of the education system so as to transform the minds and lives of those who unfortunately find themselves in their care. Educated people are far less likely to enter into illegal pursuits as they have options and avenues for progress.

Social transformation has both qualitative and quantitative aspects and all must occur simultaneously. Communities need to be redeveloped into places that nurture our people instead of maximizing the head count housed, and we need to take our democracy and our role as citizens a lot more seriously if we are to go anywhere where this issue is concerned.
