Of Princes...

A return to first principles in a republic is sometimes caused by the simple virtues of one man. His good example has such an influence that the good men strive to imitate him, and the wicked are ashamed to lead a life so contrary to his example.
- Niccolo Machiavelli

The cold calculated and planned destruction of the Leader of the Congress of the People Winston Dookeran has the man himself to thank for its success as he seems either committed to his own political demise or is just about fed up of the whole damn thing.

Either way, political wolves are gathering around him ready to dispatch, and unless he signals to his side that he does intend to fight, the outcome may already be a foregone conclusion, and because of the nature of the protagonists themselves, so also the fortunes of the COP.

One does not have to be a political scientist to see the hand of Jack Warner in this destabilizing attack, and if the leaves are being read correctly, in this one move he will either gain full control of the junior Party through the appointment of his puppet king or, failing that, destroy it completely by euthanizing the Party's members one by one.

I have been told that Mr. Dookeran is a shadow of his former self and this fight may be beyond him, but to be honest to history he never was a true political heavyweight in the manner of those we have come to know, his strength was in his perceived integrity, a prince among thieves of grand note and stature. Should he fail to defend his throne, it would be detrimental to the center struggling to hold on to the promise of change and consign this country's political fortunes to a thinly disguised racial struggle for financial control.

His main challenger Anil Roberts can be quite a decent chap on a personal level, but the stakes in this poker are way too high to take on spin. The Congress of the People needs at its helm a true champion divorced from business as usual, energized and able, armed with vision for Party and country and set on fire with purpose.
