Screaming into the Wind... (the issue of farms and houses)

There is a saying, never argue with an idiot, he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Were it not for the fact that I believe that fundamentally people are able to learn new behaviors, new knowledge and new skill I wouldn't even try, because nothing feels like banging your head against a brick wall like talking to a person whose mind is made up politically, nothing; but we have to try if we really want change for the better in this place because the battlefield for change is in our collective minds.

Listening to the opinions being espoused on the issues of the farmers, the pineapples, and the Prime Minister one is tempted to forget for a moment that we live in a country governed by the rule of law. Nothing in this matter is as clear cut as the fact that the farmers intend to be both wrong and strong, and while I am a champion for the poor, the dispossessed and the downtrodden, I will never be for mob rule on any level because in those circumstances the weak always lose even more. I have called for a land use policy from this government and the last and I am not the only one. Farming for self sufficiency should be one of our front burner goals, but none of our goals should be achieved through lawlessness or the question would have to be asked what would be the point?

Watching the Head of the Sheep and Goat herders Association 'ramajay' on national television I am tempted to believe that this man has at least one important screw loose, and if he thinks for one moment that we the people will rise up to help him and his friends commit wrong for their purposes he is sad and mistaken.

There has to be an end to these needless attention grabbing stunts and the Prime Minister has to understand that she is in a two Party goat race forever. Not one of these organizations can change the positive political fortunes of the country, and she needs to enunciate a national plan for every major sector and get on with it.

We have had consultation and we have global models to follow now, both boom and depressed. Construction stimulates the economy, but not nothing construction; we need to build damns, water retention ponds and encourage sustainable living through a State led water policy.

Create a land use policy tied to a food policy as both must coexist. Cede all available farm lands to the Central Market and issue acreages to farmers to grow specific crops so as to manage gluts and shortages better.

Encourage home ownership through sensible mortgages and subsidize 'eco-friendly' starter home programs as a win win scenario for everybody.

If real Leadership goes where there is no road then make one. The time for politicizing every issue is over now, and while no Party will ever enjoy more than fifty per cent support while in Office due to racist voting patterns and other demographics, the government of the day can still be guided in the main by understanding the people and their current needs while creating a world of new development to fill needs they are not even aware of as yet.

Knowing when to move beyond posture into action seems to be the trick here, and in my view the Prime Minister pushed all the right buttons on this issue.

Those who appear to not get it yet are wasting everyone's time on an issue that has long since passed them by.
